Gentlemen Of Bacongo: The Dandies Of Sub-Saharan Africa

JT Paradox: Daniele Tamagni released a photobook exploring the phenomenon of sapeurs--extraordinarily dressed dandies from the Congo. Surrounded by war and extreme poverty, these men dress in tailored suits, silk ties, and pristine footwear.

I was so fascinated by this, and I empathised with these african dandies. I have experienced firsthand what it's like to dress ostentatiously among people who don't; each time I'm wearing my custom-made suits and walking through my own neighbourhood--the Tenderloin. What these sapeurs are doing is just like that, times one hundred! Whatever their reasons for doing so--it's definitely something extraordinary, and I wanted to share it with you. See the rest of the photos here.

You forgot to mention the social ramifications of these dandies... They spend absolutely all their money on high fashion leaving themselves no money to buy food for their families. I am all for style, but that's uncalled for.
